Abortion Statistics for Colorado

Nationally, the teenage abortion rate in 2006 was 19.3 abortions per 1000 women. Their was a 56% decrease in the abortion rate compared to its peak in 1988, but it increased 1% compared to 2005.

According to data from 2005, Colorado ranks 18th amongst the states with a teenage abortion rate of 17 procedures per 1000 women aged 15-19 while New York ranks 1st with 41/1000. South Dakota and Utah both are ranked last with 6/1000.

Note: When considering abortion rates the reader must account for a specific states estimated teenage (women 15-19 years of age) population size (i.e. California ~ 1,200,000 vs. South Dakota ~ 29,000; from The Guttmacher Institute Report, Table 3.6).
